COMPETITION - Name A Woodland Competition and win a £50 discount voucher for axe throwing at Eat Sleep Axe

Cheltenham

Here is a unique opportunity to name a wood AND win a £50 discount voucher for axe throwing at Eat Sleep Axe in Cheltenham.

Cheltenham urban axe throwing business, Eat Sleep Axe, are committing 5% of sales income to woodland conservation, in order to help combat global warming. The money will be used in a variety of woodland conservation projects, and next month they are buying a small wood in South Gloucestershire.

Name A Woodland Competition
To get the woodland conservation project kicked off, they are running a competition to name their first wood.

Please submit your suggestion for a name. Eat Sleep Axe will then select the best one. The winning entry will get a £50 discount voucher for axe throwing at Eat Sleep Axe, in addition to getting to name the wood.

‘To-Be-Named’ Wood
The first wood is located in South Gloucestershire and is a mix of native English trees, Birch, Beech, Sycamore, Oak, and Hazel. There are many mature trees as well as a large proportion of self-seeded new trees. Ramsons and Bluebells grow amongst the undergrowth, indicating that it is ancient woodland (over 400 yrs old at least).

What Will The Woodland Be Used For?
The woodland will be managed specifically to conserve it for its own (and the planet’s) sake only. It will not be managed commercially. In general, Eat Sleep Axe will keep it as wild as possible with minimal interference.

The blocks of wood used for axe throwing targets are sourced from sustainably managed indigenous Douglas Fir softwood. The various hardwood trees in the woodland won’t/can’t be used for targets.

Why Buy An Established Woodland?
Eat Sleep Axe want to highlight the importance of trees to the planet, as well as conserve a small piece of the Gloucestershire countryside.

An average mature tree will absorb about 20 kg of CO2 every year. Planting new trees is also a great way to help combat global warming (and Eat Sleep Axe plan to do that in future too), but conserving established mature trees is just as vital.

As a Gloucestershire small business, Eat Sleep Axe also wanted to base their woodland conservation in the local area – rather than just outsource that to some global woodland charity (as much as they do vital work too).
