Cat of the Day - 27th June 2020 - Tom

The black tom cat is Jack who arrived about 13 years ago as a nearly dead stray, moved in and is still with us.  He has always been friends with the whole fox family but always singles out a best friend.  The vixen in the photo we called Disney (because she was a pretty as a Disney fox).  Disney used to turn up around 10Am every day and the pair of them would play, eat, sleep and generally hang out together; they would hunt cooperatively at night.  Disney even ventured into the house a few times looking for Jack and would often call if he was indoors.  When Disney broke her front leg the cat would hunt birds and rodents and leave them for her to collect.  The first year Disney had cubs we thought she would keep the cat away, but one night the adults were in the garden having their nightly dinner, she called for her cubs and Jack led 4 very cute cubs out of the bushes - we could hardly believe he had been trusted to cub-sit!  (We wouldn't trust him with anything small and furry!) We've got used to the rather strange friendships between the cats and foxes and learned a lot.  After Disney he befriended another vixen, her daughter, Stringer, and his current best mate is Stringer's son, Alfie (the first dog fox).
